Leader Introductions: New Leaders introduced
Registration: We currently have 115 girls and 38 adults registered. We now have 12 troops. We are still in need of a Daisy leader.
Forms: Julie passed out a form to be used for Over the Counter Medication.
Blythe Service Unit Website: Our web site is up and running. There isn’t much on our site yet, but we’ll be adding to it and updating it on an ongoing basis. Julie has made a calendar that will go on the web and all leaders are invited/encouraged to submit information about their troops for the website. We hope to have the newsletter portion available soon.
Bank Accouts: Shari Black, our Treasurer, is working with Provident Bank to provide them with the information they need to set up all of our troop accounts. The signature cards will be available at Provident Bank to be signed by next Monday. Everyone needs to stop in and sign for their accounts. (Troops 522, 606, 229, and 1540 are already done.) Each account has three signers; usually the leader, co-leader, and Shari (Treasurer). All checks need two signatures. When making out a check for reimbursement, the person being reimbursed cannot be one of the signers. Each troop needs to provide Shari with a list of non-consumable items that their troop owns, for example, camping equipment, scissors etc.
Serive Unit Projects:
Sugar Plum Tree:
Shari Black is organizing the Sugar Plum Tree project. Each troop needs to make 50 Christmas tree ornaments. She would like them to be done by the end of October. Troops can put their completed ornaments on top of the cabinets in the GS house, with a note - “from troop #___“. If anyone needs ideas for making ornaments, contact Shari. A special meeting will be scheduled to wrap the gifts. Leaders and girls can help with this project. We will need donations of wrapping paper. Also we will need volunteers for setting up and taking down the trees.
Camping Trip:
We are planning a Service Unit camping trip. Shari Black is coordinating. The trip is scheduled for the first weekend in January, (January 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) at Wi-wo-ca camp in Yucaipa. Leaders need to present this idea to parents to see how many people are interested in this trip. Also keep in mind it will be January and COLD. The girls will be earning their camping badges/try-it’s during this trip. Shari will be checking with leaders to get help in areas such as meal and activity planning. Julie and Shari will work on calculating the cost of the trip this week. The cost of renting the camp is approximately $120.00.
Pictures:
Tanya Finley is coordinating a Service Unit Girl Scout Photo Day. Picture day will be Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Ruth Brown Elementary from 9:00 until noon. The picture of the entire Service Unit will be taken at 9:00 a.m. Tanya will have prices later this week. She will put them in leader files as soon as they are available. Parent packets will be available by the week of October 20, 2003.
Cleaning: The cleaning calendar is done, unfortunately, Julie‘s computer is currently down. She‘ll get it printed as soon as possible and put copies in leader files. Troops who have meetings on Monday and Wednesday need to put the trash out by the curb (for pickup on Tuesday and Thursday mornings).
Mail Box and New TV: Julie’s locked mailbox has been installed outside her office. Put anything that needs to go to Julie in her mailbox, including registrations, notes, etc. The new TV has been installed/mounted on the wall. We need to look into getting a DVD/VCR combination. Possibly we could get one donated, or each troop could donate $10 to purchase one.
Tables: The tables can be borrowed by troops, just let Julie know in advance.
Next Meeting: Next meeting will be Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at the GS house. Kathy will send out reminder postcards.
